Understanding my business energy bill – British Gas Business


Hi my name is Robbie. I’m a Customer Care professional at British Gas business. Today I’m going to talk you through your
business bill. This is your British Gas account number. Please quote it if you want to contact us. You can find your meter details like MPAN for electricity supply or MPRN for your gas supply on your customer bill. Meter serial numbers are specific to your meter. They’re a mix of letters and numbers and appear to the right of your MPAN or MPRN. If you are not given us your monthly meter readings, then we will guess or estimate how much electricity or gas you’re using. This will be shown by green label saying ‘estimated’ within the section details of charges. So that we can provide you of an accurate bill, please suppliers with a monthly meter reading. If you have an online account with us, we will already have all of your details so all you will have to do is
enter your read. This section shows your payment date. Wherever you pay by cash or cheque, this is the date your payment is due. We always suggest you pay by direct debit for your ease and peace of mind and you could receive up to a 7% discount. VAT stands for value-added tax. Most businesses will be charged VAT at 20% on business energy. Certain businesses, like charities, pay the domestic rate of 5%. Climate Change Levy will also be removed from these business’ energy bills. Climate Change Levy or CCL, is an environmental tax on commercial energy use.
