Squarespace x Stripe: creating beautiful e-commerce sites

[Music] One of Squarespace’s missions is to allow anybody to own a piece of the internet. We believe that design can give you that competitive edge, can push your business forward. You don’t need to know how to code, but you can still have a beautiful web presence, no matter what. Commerce was actually the number one most requested feature for over a decade at Squarespace. We were looking for a way to really integrate online shopping into the website experience. The Stripe API enabled us to integrate commerce in a way that helped us display the customer’s brand in the best possible way. We no longer had to send people out to a third-party site to handle the checkout and payments, There they could keep the checkout experience consistent with their brands and their logos, which was really important to the experience that we were trying to create. Western Editions is a letterpress print shop, and we specialize in custom designs and art prints and greeting cards. Since we’re an analog print shop we sort of deal with outdated technology, and we’re really good at that. Part of why we chose Squarespace was we knew there was an e-commerce edition you could add. It was a great platform to start our online shop. Payments was a hard problem, and not one we were super interested in solving on our own. Stripe is a really amazing simple solution that let us get going really quickly. There are lots of security requirements around doing payments safely and protecting people’s private information. Since Stripe solved so much for us we don’t have a single personal dedicated to payments, and we’re able to pursue all kinds of other projects that improve the Squarespace commerce product. Once we launched commerce what was really exciting about it was that it actually increased our market massively because we had suddenly so many more customers who are coming to Squarespace in order to launch a full-scale e-commerce stores. Setting up the e-commerce part of our website was super easy. So all we had to do was input our banking info and then it just shows up. It really has allowed our business to sort of grow more than we could have expected. We prefer to spend more of our time on our press than dealing with accounts online Squarespace, and using Stripe payment has definitely made it easy for us, and we can focus on the fun part of the business. one thing that Squarespace loves in our partnership with Stripe, is that we don’t have to worry about payment infrastructure, we can just focus on making the best web product for all of our users.
