Andre Veronie: So the Small Business Hive,
for me it’s a co-working space that has incorporated some of the features that I really look for
in an office environment. It’s for small businesses that have outgrown their living space or their
living rooms and their kitchen benches. Philippa Bakes: So I was the first person
to sign up. Yeah I just guess I was really enthusiastic to find somewhere to do this
sort of thing, and didn’t really find anywhere else in Geelong that had the same facilities.
Terry Hickey: One word – Community… Because the sense of community that’s, that’s created
by groups of business that work side by side, sometimes collaboratively, and sometimes individually.
But the sense of people working in each other’s space gives the opportunity for people to
commune and grow ideas. Pamela Dorward: The facilities in the Small
Business Hive are very diverse. So we have a co-working space, there’s desk space for
people to work in. As well as we have standing desk space as well for them. We’ve got meeting
rooms that they can utilise – a variety of different sizes. As well as a board room.
Andre Veronie: The programs that they have and the mentors that they offer, as part of
the package, you know I’ve been in business a long time and I’m still learning things
because of that mentoring that’s provided by the Hive.
Philippa Bakes: It’s got a really professional feel about it. It’s the sort of place that
I wanted to reflect my own brand. Pamela Dorward: We have a lot of different
business owners that come in and entrepreneurs, startups, and it gives them a good opportunity
to network with other businesses. And that may be within the space, when they’re here
with other members. It might be at some of our events that we hold. As well as we will
sometimes give them the opportunity to introduce them to other areas that they could be going
to, to network within the community. Terry Hickey: But what it does on an event
sense – it brings new ideas into Geelong. It creates partnerships with other organisations.
So the opportunities that the Hive creates for community and professional development
is fantastic. Philippa Bakes: I think it’s a pretty unique
space actually in Geelong that fills a need for small businesses. It’s a good place where
you can get work done, but it’s also a place where you can meet and network with other
people. There aren’t that many places like this.
