Dr. Bruce Rogen, Chief Medical Officer, Cleveland Clinic Employee Health Plan

The Cleveland Clinic
has vast experience, but for these really rare conditions, where even the clinic may only see four or five or six patients a year and our health plan in particular may only have one or two, we can’t replicate what Accordant is able to do for us, where they may have 300 or 400 or 500 of these patients across the country that they’re working with. So I wouldn’t say that they have more clinical expertise than
the clinic can bring to bear, but they have a lot more expertise in managing these patients
long-term, over time, from a socioeconomic point of view, from a telephonic care
coordination point of view, from a coaching and health
engagement point of view, and that’s the big advantage that we found once we started working with Accordant. Patients like the
ability to not be sitting on the phone for 45 minutes
waiting for someone to pick up. They like the ability of not having to leave a message and basically be told, “Someone will call you back
tomorrow with that information.” They like the ability of getting someone that they know on the line that they trust, that they’ve worked with, in some cases, for years
and years and years, and ask the questions and get the answers they need and feel reassured. And again, I can’t emphasize
enough the importance of the coaching and the education. This is not just, “Hi, Mrs. Smith. “How are you today? “Did you take your pills? “Wonderful, I’ll call you in a month.” It’s beyond that, and that’s where the real
value of the program comes in. (uplifting music)
